Simplicity: Ask the Team

At 12five, one of our core values is Simple is Beautiful.  We see the finance industry as overly complicated at times, and work to simplify the process for our clients. For us, those answers usually come in the form of great communication and helpful technology.  Many of us strive for simplicity not only at work, but in our home lives as well.  We decided to poll the team: what life hacks do you have to make your lives more simple? Here is what we found.

From Ryan: Learning to say no has been one of my biggest life hacks. With family, the business and all my running, it’s important that I cut out distractions and focus my time. It leads to a simple life that I can focus on being really good at the core things that matter to me. That’s not to say one should become a hermit, quite the contrary. I view saying no to things as creating more space for saying yes to the “right” things. If I say yes to everything, I’d have no time for the truly amazing things. Generally for me, unless it’s a hell yes, it’s a no.

From Cathy: Going to a gym that plans all my workouts keeps things really simple. I love that every day is different. My entire body gets a good workout, both my strong areas and weak areas are worked out. Overall, I don't have to spend any time or effort to make this happen. I simply show up and the coaches take it from there.

From Max: Mobile banking apps. At first I was highly skeptical of having mobile banking apps installed on my phone. I was initially concerned about security, but many of the new security features have changed my mind! For most of my apps, I can login with my fingerprint. Even if I lost my phone, no one would be able to access my bank accounts. Since I have installed the apps I have been able to make my monthly payments, send money to people on special occasions, and constantly monitor my purchases all through the convenience of my phone. Also, since I have been using the mobile banking apps I have rarely had to log on to use bank websites anymore.

From Alison : Online grocery shopping and delivery keeps my life super simple! INSTACART is my new best friend as they deliver with Aldi now! Not only am I saving precious time, I'm saving money too. No more "impulse" buying at the store. Also, with the app, my husband can add items he wants throughout the week too, so no more grocery list to forget at home.

From Jay: Calendar for iPhone. I have a ton going on in my life right now between work and home. With the Calendar app you can have multiple calendars all in once spot! I have my work calendar, personal calendar, and a shared calendar with my wife. Anytime she adds an event, it is instantly shared with me. Also, it pulls events from my emails that it thinks may be important to add to the Calendar and I can accept or decline. My Calendar has been a very useful tool lately with all that is going on!

From Liz:   I take thousands of pictures and don't want to lose them.  For literally $1 a month, all of my photos automatically backup and save to iCloud.  I can access them easily when I need them and don't have to worry about constantly moving pictures, backing them up, and deleting them.  Finding a picture I am looking for is a breeze!
